Name of hotel
Casa Fajara, Carrapateira
Style and ambience
Laidback, informal rural boutique hotel - set in the middle of the countryside with panoramic mountain views and exactly what you would expect from the very far west of the Algarve. With just 12 rooms, it’s quiet, intimate and a home-from-home. The perfect hideaway.
All the rooms are clean, comfortable and furnished in traditional style, and all have ensuite facilities and terraces. Choose from standard, premium and deluxe, the latter with log-burning fires and a sitting room. For those on a tight budget (eg backpackers and surfers) there are also a number of basic rooms in a separate building.
Food and drink
Breakfast and evening meals are served in the main dining room, and there’s a lounge/bar. It’s a short drive/longish walk into Carrapateira for bars and cafes, and the hotel can bring in outside catering for private events such as weddings.
Outdoor pool, tennis court and yoga/fitness studio.
Why do you like it?
Don't expect glamour or sophistication. This is the ‘other’ Algarve, a world away from the golf resorts and manicured lawns of the Golden Triangle. The area falls into the stop-the-world-I-want-to-get-off’ category and Casa Fajara makes an ideal base for exploring the region or just chilling out. The beaches in this part of the Algarve are spectacular.
When to go?
Like most places in the Algarve, it’s very busy in summer. Opt for an out-of-season break if you can.
It also makes an ideal venue for small weddings, workshops, retreats and business think-tanks.
The hotel organises (or hosts) a series of workshops and activities including yoga, fitness boot camps, surfing, walking and photography.
Just outside Carrapateira. If you drive through the main street (coming from the direction of Sagres) it’s signposted on the right hand side as you leave the village. It’s then a short drive down a track.
Rates vary depending on room choice and season. Prices are from €79 per room per night including buffet breakfast.
