Name of establishment
Part of Vila Vita Parc’s traditional German Biergarten is given over to Thomas Weber’s butchers’ shop, or Metzgerei.
In the same style, it is decorated with vivid murals featuring scenes from Bavarian life, and includes a large fresh meat counter, hanging displays of cured meats and sausages, and a selection of Herdade dos Grous wine.
What to buy?
Handmade German sausages, salamis, paté and prime cuts of meat, including beef and pork from Herdade dos Grous, Vila Vita Parc’s farm estate in the Alentejo. Plus Herdade dos Grous wine.
Thomas supplies all the meat to Vila Vita Parc, and is a master butcher with many years of experience. What he doesn’t know about meat, and how to cook it, isn’t worth knowing.
Why do you love it?
Superb quality meat at exceptionally reasonable prices. We used to buy all our meat from a well-known Algarve supermarket. Not any more. Thomas is a real enthusiast for his produce – and a lovely guy to go with it.
What could be improved?
Longer opening hours!
The previous, much smaller shop was once one of the best-kept secrets in the Algarve, hardly known outside of the region’s German community. That’s all changed.
On the EN-125 in Porches. Signposted on the roundabout before you turn into Porches. (NB: it has replaced the former Casa Rodizio restaurant). Ample parking.
