Why do you like it?

It’s not quite a case of ‘everything under one roof’ but it’s as close as the Algarve gets. There’s always plenty of parking, for those who hate driving round town centres trying to find a space. And it’s a great place for bargains, especially in the January and July sales.

Food options

In the food court you’ll find the usual suspects (McDonald’s, Burger King, KFC, Pans, Pizza Hut, etc) plus plenty of snack bars and patisseries. If you’re looking for something a little more tasty, there are Portuguese restaurants and food outlets including A Panela da Sopa, Serra da Estrela and Sr. Frango da Guia, a Brazilian rodizio, and Joshua’s, which sells superb Middle Eastern food.

What could be improved?

The signage isn’t great, and non-existent in the above-ground car parks. Until you learn the geography of the place, make a note of where you’re parked, courtesy of a landmark shop/exit point. And never arrange to meet anybody outside - you’ll never find them!

When to go?

Anytime - it's especially good for gifts and birthday presents. It’s reasonably busy all year round, and packed during the sales, in the run-up to Christmas, and if a turn in the weather drives people off the beach for the day.

Insider knowledge

If you want to dodge the rain, remember that parts of the complex are still open-air. Take an umbrella.

It’s not a retail park - but if you’re looking for furniture, DIY goods or major electricals, there is one close by if you want to combine a trip.

Location

Algarve Shopping is at Guia, on the EN-125 near Albufeira. It’s clearly visible but not that clearly signposted as to where you should come off - look for the ‘zona comercial’ exit sign.

There are huge, free car parks, above and below ground. The latter area is particularly useful if it’s very hot or very wet - and you can even book your car in for a clean and valet whilst you shop.
