Name of establishment
Beach Club Pine Cliffs by Olivier
Casual but sophisticated scrubbed-pine and wicker chair beach restaurant look, with a large awning-covered terrace perched right on the beach - which is one of the best in the Algarve. It’s a shorts and T-shirt kind of place at lunchtime, moving into smart casual in the evening.
Informal and family-friendly - everything you would expect from a popular beach restaurant that’s part of a luxury resort (Pinecliffs) and located on a busy beach (Praia da Falésia).
The menu has been put together in conjunction with Lisbon celebrity chef Olivier da Costa, who operates three restaurants in Lisbon - Olivier Avenida, Guilty and Honra.
What to eat?
A good selection of starters, salads, snacks, light meals, fish, meat and desserts, designed to appeal to a holiday-going family clientele.
Sample starters: Crab and guacamole served with nachos; grouper ceviche; octopus carpaccio
Sample lighter meals: Lobster salad; Caesar salad; grilled beefsteak sandwich, American hamburger; multicereal wrap
Sample main courses: Catch of the day; grilled chicken piri-piri; lobster black rice; Black Angus New York steak
Sample desserts: Ice cream brioche sandwich; chocolate cake
What to drink?
An extensive choice of cocktails and mocktails, beer, spirits, hot and cold drinks, and a wine list comprising several Portuguese favourites
Location, location, location: if you want a restaurant that’s right on the beach, you can’t get much closer. It’s popular, naturally, with guests staying at the resort, but also pulls in the general beach-going public.
What could be improved?
The wind-breaks are probably a necessary evil, but can leave you feeling slightly ‘divorced’ from the beach. And if they have to be there, glass would be preferable to plastic.
When to go?
Lunchtimes for family fun. On selected evenings, there is live entertainment, and the location is perfect for watching the sunset.
The restaurant takes reservations for the evening but not at lunchtime, when it's on a first-come, first served basis.
If you’re heading there from the resort itself, the elevator only goes about half-way down, The rest of the way is by wooden steps - and there are a lot of them!
Right on Praia da Falésia, at the foot of the cliff below the Pine Cliffs Hotel. Access is either directly from the beach, or via the elevator/stairs combination from the resort.
Main courses: €21-€32
