Why do I like it?
Architect Howard Swan has made use of the undulating terrain, typical of the Algarve countryside, and created a course with gentle rolling fairways and natural features, including a ravine and spectacular views of the Monchique mountains - all adding up to a very pleasant and most enjoyable round of golf.
I found that from arrival to departure, the operational side (including excellent course signage) made everything very easy for me, better than most other courses I have played.
There are a number of choices, and special mention should be made of the par 3’s, which will most likely determine whether you have scored well. However, my favourite hole was the par 5, 13th. The drive is straightforward but you must then negotiate the ditch that cuts across the approach to the green, with lovely views of the Monchique mountains and water backdrop.
The most challenging hole was the par 5, 8th hole as the ravine across the fairway plays in the longer driver and the second shot. A par here is a good result.
