What is it?
Centro Ciencia Viva (Centre for Living Science) in Faro.
What makes it special?
Located in a former electricity generating station, it's a science and technology centre which houses interactive exhibits, an observatory and a flight simulator.
What age range is this suitable for?
About five upwards - earlier if they are a budding Carl Sagan. It aims to make science fun - and comprehensible to anyone. Adults will love it too.
It's a place for experimenting, where the visitor comes face-to-face with the joy of discovery, navigating real and virtual worlds and breaking through the boundaries of knowledge. The central theme is the Sun and its influence on the Earth and its inhabitants.
When to go?
A good alternative day out instead of the beach - especially if the weather isn't great.
There are two other Centres for Living Science in the Algarve - in Tavira (dedicated to water and energy) and Lagos (exploration).
