Name of establishment
Chrissy’s Restaurant, Lagoa
Minimalistic bistro in the centre of Lagoa. The restaurant is spacious and comfortable, and ideal for a quiet dinner for two at one end even if a celebration meal is taking place on the other side of the room. Attentive staff see that you want for nothing and are happy to offer menu suggestions and wine pairing ideas.
At Chrissy’s they have figured out what works and have stuck to it. The menu of French and Belgian dishes is concise and well practiced, and the simple pricing according to the number of courses you have is a popular twist favoured with regulars to the restaurant who are working their way through all the options.
Every week there are different chef’s suggestions written on the board, often with a slight Asian slant but using local and seasonal products.
Chrissy’s has a list of some of the best of Portuguese moderately-priced wines, from the smooth tastes of Quinta do Carmo to the very reasonable Chaminé.
Why do you like it
This is not a place that people stumble upon, and those who use the restaurant have usually come through word-of-mouth recommendations. The beef carpaccio here is as good as you will find anywhere, and is worth the trip for serious meat lovers.
When to go
During the height of summer when all the beach restaurants and resort eateries are packed with tourists, head inland for some peace away from the crowds.
Owners Pedro and Saul are always on hand and are happy to listen to suggestions and ideas. If there is something special that you want that is not on the menu, then have a word beforehand and they will try to accommodate whenever they can.
