Name of establishment
Katedral, Praia da Rocha
Modern and suitably dark club with a main dance area and a more chilled-out secondary area with sea views.
A real holiday nightclub during the summer season, and a popular haunt with locals throughout the rest of the year.
In the main room, the resident DJ plays a mixture of commercial house which is sure to appeal to all clubbers, and isn't too heavy for those who aren't into dance music. The playlist is designed to get everyone dancing and there is a real party atmosphere.
In the smaller dance area there is a more relaxed feel with 80´s, R&B, Latin, Pop and House music played. This is a good spot to sit in before the ‘night’ really kicks off (about 4am!) and perfect for doing a spot of people-watching from the balcony out towards the sea.
Dress code here is very relaxed - you will find some people dressed up in all their party best, with others in shorts and flip-flops.
What and where to drink?
There are bars in the two different areas serving all the usual suspects. Prices are higher at Katedral than in most of the bars outside, but the club is open until 6am, so you pay for the privilege.
Beer or shorts with mixers are the favourite tipple, before heading off to the dance floor.
Why do you like it?
A good mix of people and a friendly atmosphere, with everyone coming together to have a good time.
The security is good and it is a great place to make friends, as at the weekend this is where everybody comes together from the neighbouring resort towns around Praia da Rocha.
Where to eat?
No food available
When to go?
Although the club opens at 1.30am, it only really starts to get very busy after 4am, when all the bars in Praia da Rocha close, so be prepared for a late (or very early) one.
During the summer it’s busy every night, but draws a still larger crowd at the weekend, when the locals also head down for a night of dancing until dawn.
During the high season the club hosts its infamous Ladies Night on a Monday and Friday, with all ladies able to drink for free until 4am.
There is a minimum consumption for everyone going into the club, but you can get discounted or even free entry if you look out for people handing out flyers before you go in, especially around Nicho bar and on the main Avenida.
The club has two dance floors - a smaller one overlooking the sea and the main area, which has split levels. This is a large club and you will find that anyone who is out in the bars earlier on will probably be here later and into the early hours.
