Le Club at Grande Real Santa Eulalia, Albufeira
Ultra-modern and über-chic combination of bar, club and restaurant, with minimalist tendencies softened by clever lighting and spectacular sea views.
One of Albufeira’s top places to see and be seen. You don’t necessarily have to be a bright young thing to hang out here, but it helps. Smart-casual dress is the least you will get away with. The atmosphere can change depending on which section you are in and the time of the evening (or from season to season). Mellow early on, more of a buzz as it gets busier, and frantic on the dance floor into the early hours.
What & where to drink?
As wide a range of spirits and cocktails as you would expect from any self-respecting nightclub, plus a selection of wines from Portugal and Italy (in line with the style of food served in the restaurant)
Why do you love it?
Sophisticated without being pretentious. Lots of different spaces, corners and ‘zones’ to suit your mood and the company you’re keeping. Chat at the bar, eat at the restaurant, or head for the dance floor. Resident and guest DJs keep the beat going, and in summer it’s party central.
What could be improved?
Not quite sure why you need to use a security card to access the club if you’re already staying in the hotel. And courtesy umbrellas for guests crossing the no-man’s land area between the two in the rain would be appreciated.
When to go?
Like most clubs in Portugal, things don’t really get going until after midnight - and there are few better places in the Algarve to watch the sun come up.
Le Club is part of the Grande Real Santa Eulalia hotel but is equally open to non-residents. It has its own access from the beach, its own identity and its own website (which needs updating! But at least the photos give you a good idea of what to expect).
It hosts a variety of special events (New Year’s Eve, Valentine’s, Carnival, etc) and theme nights (70s and 80s music, latin, etc) and can also be booked for private and corporate functions.
The restaurant seats around 60. The night club takes over 600.
Right on the beach in Santa Eulalia, just outside Albufeira. Take the main road from Albufeira to Olhos d’Agua. The hotel is clearly signposted on the right hand side of the road, and accessed through security gates. Or approach it from the beach, just past the beach café and turn left.
Italian wines from €17-95, with an average price of around €30-40. Portuguese wines from €18-77, with an average price of around €25-30. Champagne and sparking wines from €40-170. Spirits and cocktails at usual upmarket nightclub prices.
Restaurant open from 8pm to midnight, bar and disco open from 10pm to 6am (but only open for groups in winter). Open every day in July and August.
