Millennium Golf Course

Name of course

Number of holes

6176 metres

When was the course opened?

Who was the designer?
Martin Hawtree

What type of golf club is it?
A private golf club which non-members are able to play for a fee.

Teeing-off times
Pre booking is not essential but is highly recommended as it can get very busy.

Dress code
Normal golf gear required; golf shoes needed with soft spikes.

Golfing facilities
At present, buggies are available for free (along with free club hire) if you play in the afternoon. However, there is a charge of €20 plus deposit for golf shoes. There is a decent putting green and a more than adequate driving range.

Why do you like it?
The course offers great value for money. Eighteen holes at the Millennium can cost as little as many other places charge to hire a buggy.

What could be improved?
On the occasions I have played there, there have been a large number of people on the course, causing slow play. Many of the greens were also in less-than-perfect condition.

Best hole
Probably the scenic 17th , a short par four over water that looks easier than it is.

Level of challenge
A moderately tough challenge for high/mid handicapped golfers, but still thoroughly enjoyable for low handicappers.

Who plays there?
A mixture of ability, and more women than I have seen on any of the other courses in the Algarve.

When to go
The course is busier in the traditional Portugal high season (February to April and September to November) and the prices do change over the year.

Keen golfers tend to go out in the early mornings and 'value seekers' go after lunch when the rates drop. The course seems to get busier in the run up to, and at, the weekends.

Food options?
A nice seating area which sells a wide variety of snacks and drinks to complement your round of golf.

Inside knowledge
Book a tee time in advance and try to avoid the busiest parts of the day, although this will be more expensive.

Operated by
Dom Pedro Golf

Cheaper golf in the summer season with 18 holes for the price of 9 in the afternoons, currently €40 if playing after 12 noon. Rates vary at other times of the year.

Opening times
Open 7 days a week, only closing for extreme weather and maintenance to the course.
