Name of establishment
Monte da Quinta Resort, Quinta do Lago
Luxury all-suite hotel - a fusion of colonial and Asian styles with a large open and spacious reception area. Stylish but not imposing.
Relaxed and informal, very chilled out, with a smart/casual feel. Most guests are in comfortable attire, especially in the summer - shorts for the men and summer dresses for the ladies.
132 suites. We stayed in a 1-bedroom suite. The décor was modern but homely, and the suite comprised a fully fitted kitchen and two bathrooms. Two large patio doors led onto a private terrace and they provide you with some refreshments in the fridge free of charge.
The breakfast lounge is very comfortable and has an outside terrace.
You can dine by the pool at lunchtime, and dinner is served in Peacock's Grill & Bar. During the winter, they utilise the conservatory extension, giving an al fresco feel even on cosy days when the fire is lit. In summer, there is a pergola area, as well as a summer lounge for drinks and pre-dinner snacks.
Executive Chef Roeland Klein spent several years at the Michelin-starred Hermitage Restaurant in his native Netherlands, and brings a sophisticated northern European touch to his menus, many based on the best produce available from Portugal. His sources include meat from the Alentejo, and fish and seafood from the Ria Formosa and the length of the Algarve coast, and his signature dishes use the freshest ingredients such as oysters, lobster and langoustines.
Room service is available 24 hours a day.
There are two bars, one by the pool and one by the reception, which also serves the grill restaurant.
Why do you like it?
The rather grand entrance could fool you into believing you were in South Carolina, but when you walk through the front doors, you’re welcomed with massive oil paintings of waves and chunky wooden benches which lead to a lovely round, 2 storey reception area with oversized sofas and a huge bamboo centre piece.
The overall feeling was calming and welcoming. They’ve applied soft touches like peacock print pillowcases on the sofas to follow the theme from lobby to lounge.
The hallways to the suites are long but not imposing, with some wonderful over-sized art, sofas and tall bamboo plants to guide you to your suite.
The spa was lovely! A couples treatment room, single treatment room (both with overhead mood lighting, a Vichy shower room, two Jacuzzis, steam room, sauna, indoor pool and gym.
There’s also a kids club and meeting space for business events, and the resort can also organise a range of activities for you nearby, including golf, water sports, tennis and adrenaline sports.
Not really a tip but worth mentioning - they have a falcon and handler on duty during breakfast to keep the sparrows away! A brilliant touch.
Head bartender Filipe mixes a wicked selection of cocktails - you have been warned!
132 suites ranging from 1 to 3 bedrooms.
The resort also offers real estate for sale.
Avenida Andre Jordan, Quinta do Lago, 8135-998 Almancil.
Very easy to find - as you head into the Quinta do Lago resort from Almancil, go over 4 roundabouts and it’s directly on your left.
Ranging from €80 - €275 per suite per night low to high season, but very busy in the summer so advanced bookings are recommended.
