Piri-Piri Steak House - Pine Cliffs Hotel

Name of establishment

Piri-Piri, Steak House Pine Cliffs Hotel, Albufeira

A modern take on a traditional Portuguese restaurant. Large, mainly open-plan interior under a wooden vaulted ceiling. It has a central circular area to break up the seating layout, plus plenty of other tables in various configurations around the edges. There’s also a huge outdoor terrace for al fresco dining, plus a play area and garden for the kids.

Family-friendly. You don’t really come here for a romantic evening, but you do come if you have hungry (and energetic) children. A lot of Portuguese restaurants welcome family groups, and this is no exception, despite being located in a five-star hotel. There are no hushed tones or discreet lounge pianists here. But it's not a complete kid-fest. Adults can come and enjoy a perfectly pleasant evening just by themselves.

When it was first opened, chicken piri-piri was the house speciality, hence the original restaurant name of just Piri Piri. In 2012 however the Piri Piri Steak House concept was born, with the introduction of new menu items, with the aim of showcasing a one-of-a-kind selection of prime meat produce from all corners of the globe to local and foreign visitors.

The selection of gourmet meat specialities now includes an array of international produce including the tomahawk prime steak, 300gr rib eye, and loin steak of veal from the Netherlands, as well as the local delicacy of chicken piri-piri.

One of the chef's signature dishes meanwhile is whole charcoaled centre-cut beef tenderloin for two, slightly chargrilled.

Typical prices:

Tapas (€8-16)

Soups (€6-10)

Hot and cold starters (€12-14)

Steaks (€26-90)

Other meat (€18-34)

Fish (€22-45)

Vegetarian (€14-19)

Desserts from (€4-9)

Portuguese wine plus the usual array of alcoholic and soft drinks.

Why do you like it?

It works equally well in good and bad weather. Of course, when the sun is shining, it’s great to be able to let the kids run around outside and burn off some energy without thinking they will be disturbing everybody else’s enjoyment. But the relaxed atmosphere also transfers inside if wet.

Insider knowledge

Like all of the Pine Cliffs restaurants, it is also open to non-residents.

It’s not the cheapest place to eat chicken piri-piri (or even steak) in the Algarve, but there’s plenty of space to let the kids have fun once they’ve left the table - and no traffic to worry about.

Every evening for dinner between 6:30pm - 11pm. Check for seasonal closing in the winter months.
