Why do you like it?

Offers a traditional Algarve holiday experience, ideal for those who like peace and quiet. It’s not a hotel, so don’t go looking for 24/7 facilities, organised entertainment or the anonymity of being in a large resort. You will have your privacy, as there are plenty of quiet corners and terraces, but you’ll also be in close proximity to the other guests, especially at dinner, so it helps if you are the sociable kind.

Owners Julio and Jill opened Quinta das Achadas in 2002, so it’s well-established, well-run, and they obviously know the local area well, so can advise on what to see and do.

Close to Lagos and a good base for exploring the western Algarve.

When to go?

As with anywhere in the Algarve, July and August are the busiest (and most expensive) periods. If you’re not tied to school holidays, shoulder season rates are cheaper, everywhere is less crowded, and you’ll often get great weather.

Insider knowledge

Hire a car. It gives you the flexibility to get around the region, and in most cases, you’ll find a week’s car hire is around the same price as taking a taxi both ways from the airport.

If you are looking for a secluded retreat for larger parties of 14+ people, Quinta das Achadas can be hired exclusively.

Estrada da Barragem, Odiaxere, Lagos 8600-25.

Price ranges depend on your choice of accommodation and reflect the difference between low season (April, May, June and October) and high season (July, August and September).

Apartments: from €895 to €1,500 (all apartment bookings are taken on a per week basis only)

Rooms (per night): from €80 to €120.

Opening times

Generally from April to October, although they will consider winter bookings.
