Why do you like it?
Friendly staff at reception.
Great facilities to practice on your short game and putting, and an amazing driving range.
The greens are in great condition.
The golf club has over 150 members which makes for a very convivial atmosphere.
The stand-out holes on the front 9 include the par 3 5th hole which has elevated tees to a small green: depending on the strength and direction of the wind your club selection can vary from a sand iron to a 6 iron.
The 9th hole is 462 metres from the yellow tees and if the wind is coming from the north it plays as a par 6!
The back 9 was an absolute delight to play: very picturesque with some water hazards filled with huge koi carp. This course requires real thinking and plotting your way around but it is one of the most pleasing courses on the eye I have ever played.
Level of challenge
The course at first glance looks quite daunting with lots of undulations.
In summary I would recommend this course as it provides a real challenge and requires total concentration; whilst saying that it is equally player-friendly to higher or lower handicap players.
There is a great menu providing a wide range of bar snacks to fish and chips or Piri Piri chicken.
I’d recommend a buggy as the course is very long to walk.
Many of the greens play uphill so be aware of the extra distance which needs to be taken into account for your approach shots.
