Name of establishment
Solar das Oliveiras, Galé
Historic restaurant converted from a 100-year old farm building. It also has a funky cocktail bar and outside seating area, which complements the main restaurant perfectly, but also acts as a stand-alone space.
Rustic meets mod cons. Plenty of space, under a fantastic arched stone roof. Smart to smart-casual dress recommended.
What to eat?
Presunto and cheese for starters is a must. Fabulous steaks, pork, kebabs and other meat dishes. You have to try the secretos, a very special black pork speciality. They also serve fish cataplana, bacalhau and other traditional Portuguese dishes.
What to drink?
Extensive selection of Portuguese wines, especially from the Alentejo. Ask Fernando for his expert advice.
Why do you love it?
Old-fashioned in a reassuring way. And consistently good.
What could be improved?
If it's not busy, it can feel a little too quiet, given the size of the main restaurant.
When to go?
Perfect for quiet dinners or family occasions.
Don't come here if you are a vegetarian!
Approx 100 covers.
On the main Estrada de Vale Parra road (parallel to the EN-125) between Albufeira Marina and Armacao de Pera. Look out for a large, low quinta-style building on the left-hand side of the road if you are coming from Albufeira. Clearly signposted. Plenty of private parking.
Main course for two plus wine: approx €50.
Evenings only. Closed Mondays except in summer.
