Name of resort
Vale da Lapa, Carvoeiro
The concept of Vale da Lapa is to offer the privacy associated with a villa holiday combined with all the services found at a five-star hotel, and it manages to do both successfully while maintaining an accessible price structure, especially for families.
Modern and stylish, the resort town houses are simple but very spacious, with everything you need for a stay of any duration, while the resort offers a range of facilities.
A family friendly resort with the emphasis on creating a safe and welcoming environment for guests of all ages.
The townhouses are very liveable (far more than many types of holiday accommodation) with well equipped kitchens and luxurious bathrooms.
The resort offers a variety of packages to appeal to all guests, which means that there is a good mixture of ages and nationalities.
Staff are all multi-lingual, and more than happy to help with everything from booking a place on the shuttle bus down to Caneiros beach to arranging bike hire.
This resort only opened in 2010 and is yet to suffer from a lot of the wear and tear that can be associated with older resorts.
On the site there are 73 two-bedroom townhouses and a further 12 villas each with three bedrooms. The villas all have small private pools while the townhouses have access to the shared large pool in the centre of the resort.
The master bedrooms in the townhouses have their own private balcony and dressing area, while the second bedrooms also have en suite bathrooms and are of a very good size.
Because the houses are so large, a T2 could easily sleep six with room still to spare.
There is a restaurant at the resort open for both guests and outside visitors, with views over the pool, which is an alternative to self-catering in the townhouses and villas.
During the evening there is an a la carte menu or a special priced menu, with a selection of international and Portuguese dishes. In the mornings, it opens for the buffet breakfast.
Spa, two paddle tennis courts, 9-hole putting green, children’s playpark, bar, restaurant, indoor and outdoor pools.
What could be improved?
The restaurant is perhaps a little small for the size of the resort and can get very busy during peak times - especially at breakfast.
There is a decent sized room under the main clubhouse that is available for events, and can be booked out in advance.
Is it part of a chain or marketing group
The hotel is part of the Portuguese-owned Água Hotels Group, which also has the four-star Riverside hotel nearby in Parchal and Mondim de Basto in the north of Portugal.
Estrada das Sesmarias, Carvoeiro.
The resort is located between Carvoeiro and Sesmarias. Head for the water tower in Sesmarias then follow the signs from there. The main entrance has water features and flags flying to make it easier to find.
Standard rates are from €117 per night for two people during the low season to €594 per night for six people in the high season.
The resort offers various packages and special last minute rates which are available on the website.
