What type of activity is it?

What makes it special?
A fabulous location - where better to try to improve your game than at Vale do Lobo?
Where do you participate in this activity?
The resort’s golf academy and practice range.
Got to see/got to do?
The setting is inspiring, and the coaching/tuition incredibly encouraging. It makes you really want to play better golf.
Everything is provided if you’re just visiting, or a relative novice, but you can use your own clubs if you have them. Non-spiked golf shoes are an advantage.
Vale do Lobo’s golf pro, Steve Watkins, was unbelievably patient, caring and understanding. Within an hour, he had seriously improved my swing - easier action, less strain, more distance - all a great help in my aim to lower my handicap.
When to go?
Anytime the weather is good enough for golf - which in the Algarve means most of the year.
Be punctual. Take full advantage of the time available. And don’t be afraid to ask questions, however stupid they might seem. Steve is very patient, and he’s heard them all before.
Size of place or limit of numbers
As a training session, the benefit of a one-to-one is the exclusivity, and the total devotion of the time available to your individual game. But I can see that several friends could enjoy the same experience together - perhaps over a longer timescale to get everyone fully involved. It’s amazing how quickly the time seems to go.
Vale do Lobo is clearly signposted, and easy-to-follow directions are provided if you don’t live in the Algarve. If you do, you’re bound to know where it is. There’s plenty of on-site parking, and the resort has courtesy transport to get you around if necessary.
€80 for a one-hour lesson. Advance booking essential.
PS: Junior golfers can also have lessons - see our linked review.
