Name of establishment
Vila Vita Biergarten, Porches
Traditional German beer garden, with large indoor and outdoor spaces. Authentic touches include waiting staff in traditional costumes, long benches, vivid murals featuring scenes from Bavarian life, and a colourful maypole.
Homemade sausages from the hotel’s own butcher Thomas Weber, plus other German delights including schnitzel, herring, pretzels, potato salad, knuckle of pork and apple strudel.
Beer, of course, from the famous Munich brewery Paulaner. As the Biergarten is owned by Vila Vita Parc, there’s also a selection of wines from the group’s Alentejo vineyard, Herdade dos Grous. Plus water, soft drinks, and tea and coffee.
Why do you like it?
A taste of Bavaria in the Algarve. It’s not kitsch, and the quality of the beer, wine and food are superb. Reasonable prices too.
When to go?
If you live in the Algarve: ideal to drop into for a cool beer after work, and great for a snack or an impromptu dinner if cooking doesn’t appeal.
If you’re a visitor: an interesting alternative to chicken piri-piri or sardines if you’re looking for casual dining and somewhere with atmosphere away from the beach.
As well as being open to hotel residents and non-residents alike, the Vila Vita Biergarten can also be booked for groups and private events.
Part of the Biergarten is given over to Thomas Weber’s butchers’ shop, or Metzgerei, selling homemade German sausages, deli items, and prime cuts of meat, including beef and pork from Vila Vita's Alentejo estate, Herdade dos Grous.
The Biergarten seats around 100 people inside, on two floors, and a further 200 outside in the extensive gardens.
On the EN-125 in Porches. Signposted on the main Porches roundabout - left if you are coming from Portimao, right if you are coming from Albufeira. (NB: although it is owned and operated by Vila Vita Parc, it is NOT located in the resort grounds. It's 2-3 km away).
